What does Chief think? He runs the thing for hang-gliders.

I understand it. For combination of pure aesthetics, magnificence of backdrop, proximity to bar...I can't imagine a better place.
I thought the BASE jumpers that went recently were practicing Civil Disobedience in its finest form. Check out some Thoreau for details. Here's a famous quote of his:
'Unjust laws exist: shall we be content to obey them, or shall we endeavor to amend them, and obey them until we have succeeded, or shall we transgress them at once?'
Thoreau didn't pay his poll tax because he was against slavery. The jumpers jumped to demonstrate they feel it should be their right. Both took the punishment they knew was coming.
What could possibly be more spectacular in the US then jumping from El Cap?

EXCELLENT point, Danny!
Can't we all allow ourselves to subject to differing death rates?
For that matter, what IS an acceptable death rate? Most folks think Russian Roulette, one in six, is an UNacceptable rate. As an US hang glider/paraglider we all accept a one in two thousand likelihood of death each year.
My personal threshold is somewhere in between. I wonder where I would draw the line.
One in a thousand?
One in one hundred?
Does anyone actually know what there number is?
Anyone go for worse than one in two thousand?

my life, my children's fathers life, our choice, nobody elses. my children and i approve of my flying a glider as safely and conservatively as i can. flying too closely to others, flying too closely to dark clouds, poor maintainence, no reserve, these are all unacceptable to us so i don't do em.

That was supposed to be 'Can't we all allow ourselves to be subject to differing death rates?'
