I've been to several web sites looking for Easy Riser info. When I left hanggliding, the Easy was being touted as 'cutting edge'. Was there a problem with this wing that caused it's demise? Why is there no mention of it on the web? Are you there Brien?

The Riser was a glider of the late 70's that occassionally tumbled. I think the setup and teardown time may have contributed to it's demise. I think there are still a few around, maybe some being used with power, i.e., 'Fly Away Home'. But the gliders of today will significantly out perform it.

Bill,

When Brian Porter won the Hang Ten Hang Gliding Open in 1976, the Riser may well have been considered 'cutting edge'. Close at his heels were the Wills Wing SSTs that took four of the top ten places (well over 300 entrants - 360 as I recall!).You won't read about them on the web! You also won't hear about the Phoenix VI, Merlin, or ASG 21!

That was more than 23 years ago Bill! Things change! Babies born that year are now the cops that gave you your most recent tickets!

Do you fly anymore, Bill? What/where did you used to fly?

Read about Brian's continuing success in a recent HG magazine or in the Oz Report at http://www.davisstraub.com/

Ken,

My God, has it been that long? I started in my late twenties, and here I am in my early 50's. Gets back to when we started - flying a 215 at 145 pounds. Now I fly 145 at 215 pounds.. go figure!

While memory fails me, you may remember the Riser pilot who was thrown out during a tumble in stormy weather at Dog in 76'. I don't recall who he was.

Aaaahh, the ASG21, not many of us remember that one, what a glider. Soared my fanny off at Kiwanda in a 21 one day long time ago. Those were the days.

Ken and Dan Thank u for the responses. I started flying in the family Beech when i was very young. I have photos from the 1953 torrey pines meet when I was just 7yrs old.I was in the air over Gillespie field when JFK was shot.I flew sailplanes at Elsinore in the late 60s. After seeing a video of Bill Bennet foot launching at Dantes peak,I knew what I wanted. I became a 'groupie' at Albatross Sails.Tom Price and co. designed my next 3 gliders.I flew the asg21 only once in an eving slide to the LZ.The SST I believe went to Thousand oaks from Sylmar.and the VI to the McDonnalds in Palmdale.Everyone went nuts. Thermal flying had become a reality. Ken..I haven't been up since I sold my clipped wing T-craft in the early 80s. I miss it.Single parenthood takes up all of my time.I appriciate this news group for the opertunity to catch up on what natural flying has to offer.

Thank you all Bill 5105
