Consider the following crude diagrams. The # is your eye, the other bit is the chin guard. Diagram on right shows trendy 'far out' chin- guard.

BTW, a friend who sky-surfs won't use a fullface helmet, he needs to be able to see his waist (where the cut-away is mounted) in an emergency - the chin bar makes this harder to achieve.
To return to the original point, try as many helmets as you can and buy the one that fits snuggly all round - you'll impress more people with good (and safe) flying than with a really snazzy lid.

Head butted the curb at about 45 mph, major helmet damage, but only short term memory loss and big headache for me. A good snug helmet *works* - trust me on this one...
