Hi,

At the moment I am working very hard for a fair which is in mid-jan (1998). Between the fair and the start of the flying season here in Germany I want to do some flying. I have got the german 'A-Schein' but unfortunately had little time and opportunity to fly. I have a La Mouette Atlas, but want to get another HG before the trip (see the my other posting). I think I can fly safely, but I want a trip guided by a flying instructor with a group, so that - He looks at the weather and decides on the flying site - He gives me tips so that I improve my flying - things are organized, like transport etc. The flying school I went to does a trip in jan for experts and then from june on . Obviously, german-speaking instructors would be nice, but english would be ok as well. The flying sites should not be too demanding (size of landing field etc) and should enable one to easily stay up. Lanzarote would be fine, but also distant aims like australia. Are most schools reluctant to take people on trips who didnt train with them? Any pointers, especially to web-sites or experiences with guided tours are welcome.

Bye bye,

Wolfram Kuss.

You should look in the Oct/Nov? issue of Cross Country magazine. There is an article by Carol Binder on flying Down Under. She also lists several guided trips ... You might also find some info (or someone to ask) in

Since I am a member of the german HG-association, the DHV, I get their newsletter. The last one just arrived and had some statistics inside. Last year, the number of new PG pilots was more than 7 times the number of new HG pilots. Now I understand why there are so few trips offered .

Anyway, last thursady I read that saturday there was a small PG/HG fair in Stuttgart, so I went there. There were two flying schools offering trips, both mixed PG/HG.

The first one is by Flugschule Goeppingen. Its 4 days (12-15.3) in Bassano. The good thing about it is that Flugschule Goeppingen has some interesting events planned, like start/land-training with a video-camera, throwing you saftey parachute in a hall etc. However, the school is quite far away from me, sigh.

The second is by 'Luftikus, Eugens Flugschule'. Its in Ă–ren, Turkey. Its from the 30.3 to 6.4. I spoke to one of the instructors and it sounded quite good (easy site, two instructors, one at start, one at landing site, wireless available etc). When I spoke to him, two PG pilots arrived who had done the trip and they were quite happy about it.

Now I am thinking about which to take (or even both ). I would welcome comments from anyone who has experience with one of the schools or one of the sites.

BTW, I am in holiday starting at the 22.12. I will still be able to look into here, but only once or twice.

Bye bye,

Wolfram Kuss.
