Hi again,

WHY does the Ground Effect decrease the Cx and increase the L/D?

WHAT'S the physical explanation for the Ground Effect?

DOES the Ground Effect increase Gflyup_max?

For example an F-16 has a Gflyup_max=9g.

Thanks!

God will pay your attention...or your employer!

Wow! Nuff Dito, pardon, said!

almada negreiros dos, pardon, dois.

In a nutshell, ground effect results when the wing tip vortices intersect the surface, thereby reducing drag and increasing your L/D.

TQ, Would it be possible for u to give some more information regarding ' ground effects', I'm confused here, by my undersatanding 'wing vortices' are created behind the wing tips(kind of trailing the wing tips, reacting with the ground/air behind the wing), since the wing is now flying in front of the 'wing vortices', how could possibly this create a ground effect to carry the wing and support it for a longer 'floating distance'. Aerodynamically it has to be another wing in front of my wing creating wing vortices to enable my wing utilize thes wing vortices for ground effect. pretty confusing any further explanation will be highly appreciated.

Look for this thread on rec.avaition.soaring. This question was addressed quite well there.

disrupted by the ground allowing more of the wing to Keith, exactly what I was also thinking. You have explained it right to the point, I'm kind of getting concerned by the fact that many HG pilots getting that shalow explanation that wingtip vortices is the reason for the lift created in ground effect. BTW Rreading the rec.aviation.soaring regarding this issue was not really a big help. Here is a good one, check this page, excellent explanations: http://www.io.tudelft.nl/~twaio/edwin/html/aero.htm
