Hello

We are 8 french hangglider pilots who plans to fly in the USA next spring (May 2001). Me, I am just the driver. They look to fly in Arizona, but they already flight ther 3 years ago, or in Utah or in new-Mexico.

Which is the best state to fly in May? They all have a rigid glider. They are all experimented pilots with many termal flights. Where can I find GPS coord of the launches ?

I thank you for your answer

Hi,

I would recommend Southern California. I've flown several sites there that time of year on PG

Marshall Peak and Crestline (nr. San Bernardino....about 100km from LAX) should be good in May.....Drive up to launch (4wd not required) and a great LZ. Contact the Crestline Soaring Society before flying tere though. Good thermal soaring but X/C may be tricky

The Owens Valley nr Bishop may be good at that time of year also. 4WD is definitely required to reach launches there though. Contact locals before flying there though as there are some sensitive areas where you shouldn't land.

Santa Barbara and San Diego have good flying too, although I haven't personally flown there.

At Lake Elsinore (about 1hr S of LA) great flying can be had. If the conditions are right classic sea-breeze convergence conditions can occur.

Hope this is useful.
