Certainly there is good soaring in the winter. Don't forget, it's temperature differentials that drive thermals, not absolute temperature. Although there is less solar radiation to drive thermal activity (the ground doesn't get as warm, relatively) during the winter, so that things are not nearly as active (especially up north!)

Also, some of the better coastal soaring happens in the winter, when the prevailing winds are more consistent. For instance, here in WA state in the US, Whidbey Island's best soaring is during the winter.

When you pass below the equater, the seasons are opposite. So if you want to fly during summer all winter long, you can go to austrailia, south africa or south america.I suggest you try ridge soaring at the coastal cliffs of miraflores in Lima Peru,it makes torrey pines look like a joke.On a good day you can reach 1000ft above the cliffs or hang suspended, motionless at 500ft.Lima is a desert area,so it litterally never rains.
